Freedom from glasses can be wonderful. Finding contact lenses to suit your unique oculo-visual profile, including your specific prescription needs, tear chemistry & level of dryness, work related vision requirements, and leisure vision requirements is not only important but sometimes challenging. Let Eyeclectic's Optometrists and licensed contact lens fitters help you to find contact lens nirvana.
Since 1888 when contact lenses were first made in Germany from blown glass, these unique devices have been used with varying levels of success in multiple modalities (rigid, rigid gas permeable, scleral, mini-scleral, soft, soft disposable), with varied materials (PMMA, HEMA, Fluoro-silicone, Silicone), and in many colours (Visible tint, Colored disposables, Costume lenses). Although many of these modalities and materials are not currently used, a few types of contact lenses have survived the test of time with great success.
Unlike cosmetics, contact lenses, including non-prescription coloured contact lenses, are considered a medical device by Health Canada. A lack of education about contact lens use and maintenance leads to abuse which can cause serious, sometimes sight-threatening eye infections and disease. It is important to remember that contact lens related problems can be non-symptomatic, meaning that you may have no warning that there is something wrong with your eyes. For this reason, Eyeclectic recommends that patients who wear contact lenses be seen by their optometrist at least annually.
Contact lenses are manufactured for nearly all prescription types and eye shapes. We are often asked the question, can I wear contact lenses, even with astigmatism? even if I wear progressives? At Eyeclectic, our Optometrists and licensed contact lens fitters fit all types of soft disposable lenses, rigid gas permeable and specialty gas permeable contact lenses, for nearly all prescription types: astigmatism, near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and multi-focal (progressive/bifocal) needs. Although not every patient can wear contact lenses, an eye health examination and contact lens fitting with one of Eyeclectic's Optometrists will determine whether you are a candidate, or if you already wear contacts, whether an updated or different contact lens product is right for you.
